Modules corresponding to the curriculum are based on existing OERs while identifying gaps and opportunities to insert Canadian components for the first half of the curriculum. The end point corresponding with the existing break between the two 3 credit first year courses offered at most post‐secondary institutions. Additional OERs were created to fill the gaps identified in existing OERs. OERs were created to highlight the Hispanic presence in Canada while at the same time celebrating Canadian achievements, values, and history. The resulting materials are integrated into an aesthetically pleasing Moodle platform which is housed by Athabasca University with open access under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike licence. Access to the textbook is available here after registration: Beginner Spanish OER. This open resource is constantly being updated and we are completing the second half of the first year curriculum.
